A Japanese man has wed a virtual game. While Nintendo DS is a sexy little gadget that can give a girl a hand with practically everything from virtual pets to cooking – let’s not forget the Wii and it’s virtual personal training system – there is one thing missing from this equation – the sex.
The Nintendo DS game, Love Simulator, is incredibly popular in Japan. The game invites its players to pick a girlfriend and acts as a virtual wooing practice session; players need to woo their virtual girlfriends with virtual flowers. You get the picture. Players are players in more ways than the usual manner; they can give their virtual girlfriend a kiss via the Nintendo DS screen.
For one player, the virtual version of the relationshp wasn’t enough. SAL9000 decided to get married to his virtual girlfriend.
“I’m so happy so many people were able to witness this,” SAL9000 wrote in a letter to tech culture blog BoingBoing.net, calling it a milestone in his life.
“Some people have expressed doubts about my actions, but at the end of the day, this is really just about us as husband and wife. As long as the two of us can go on to create a happy household, I’m sure any misgivings about us will be resolved.
“The two of us hope to continue to let our love for each other grow as time goes on.”
What does this mean for relationships in the future? Will pro-abstinence groups latch on to virtual mating games that tend to offer a two dimensional representation of their users?
