Perfume elicits – and usually is about – emotion. Scent can act as a trigger, performing a similar job to perfume, to release or trigger memories. Almost every perfume advert is filled with sensual details and connotations. The latest advert for Dolce and Gabbana’s L’eau the One features actress Scarlett Johansson.
It’s a simple ad: Dressed in a mini dress, Scarlet is seated, seductively peeling an orange and thinking about something pleasurable.
Over the years, perfume adverts have taken off in multi-directions. The static female ‘beauty’ within adverts no longer exist. In her place are women of various incarnations that range from overtly seductive to vanilla innocence. Below are some of my favorite – slightly edgier – perfume campaigns.
