A quick survey among my friends produces division, and one absent-minded ‘what the?’ on the matter of .xxx internet domains. I’m neither here nor there on the matter, sometimes seeing it as a PC way to appease parent and family groups, but there are valid points, namely those related to porn sites attached seemingly innocent website names.

The .xxx proposal is all about – get ready to laugh it up -’cleaning up porn’:

A global internet oversight agency has deferred a decision until June on whether to create a “.xxx” internet suffix as an online red-light district.

The board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or ICANN, initiated a 70-day process of consultations on a domain that could help parents block access to porn sites. Use of the “.xxx” suffix would be voluntary, though, and would not keep such content entirely away from minors.

Backers of “.xxx” have billed the proposal as a way for the adult-entertainment industry to clean up its act, though some porn sites worry that governments would wind up mandating its use, and religious groups are concerned it would legitimise porn sites. [source]

It’s happened to me; I’ve found myself on the receiving end of some unwelcome porn, and it’s almost always the unsavoury variety, the kind that makes you want to throw up your Cornflakes. No, not all porn is enticing and erotic, sorry to say.

Everyone has personal porno preferences. Mine are quite boring. I don’t like:

Facial shots, gooey cum (reminds me of snot), widened or expanded anuses, for effect, basically overhyped and overextended visuals that channel my inner Howard Hughes. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a germophobe in my wakeful daily life, it’s just that some porn is just way to macro for me and I’m entitled to feel that way. Everyone has their preferences, but still, I don’t see how the .xxx ‘clean up’ justification really cleans up porn. Clean is what people make of it.

As for the .xxx domain, it’s more about segregation and by that, I mean division. I mean segregation in its negative sense. This type of division further amplifies the good/evil dichotomy, which I feel is a false dichotomy. How is it that our societies condone so much violence, even when countless research projects point toward a strong correlation between violent social models and behavior? There is nothing similar that indicates a strong correlation between porn and sexual violence. In any case, sexual violence, such as rape isn’t about sex or sexual intimacy.

The problem with this new .xxx proposal (makes me think of ‘don’t fix what isn’t broken’) is that it will, most likely do what the snippet above says it will: give governments the opportunity to mandate and enable religious/family groups to extend their little posses of doomsayers. In other words, it won’t do anything to ‘clean up’ porn.

Clean up porn…

Unfortunately, the only article I have found is from The Sun, which basically puts paid to the legitimacy of such a (moronic) product. Ah, but wait, there is a YouTube video discussing this product briefly before ranting about Sandra Bullock’s husband’s affair with the tarty human scribble.

According to The Sun:

A spokesman for makers Too Faced said: “The colours change depending on your emotional state.”

Celeb fans include singer Katy Perry, engaged to randy funnyman Russell Brand.

Dating expert Lorraine Adams said: “This is the ultimate date ice-breaker.

“But using it every day could get embarrassing. Would you really want the man next to you on the bus to know if you’re turned on?”

It can only prompt more questions such as: What makes a dating expert a dating expert? Where is the proof that emotions can ‘control’ or ‘activate’ a lipstick. If only these morons knew the complex emotional pathways in the brain and how they don’t necessarily point to horniness when activated. Sure, we get hyped, angry, whatever, and the autonomic nervous system gets a bit of a workout, but who is to say that the colour change isn’t due to anger?

Picture it, guy gazes at woman, notices a slight colour change in her lip gloss and thinks, ‘whoa baby, I’m so tapping that vadge,’ to make a move -at his peril. I don’t know what is more funny, the fact that this product is fallacious or the fact that they’re presuming that men actually give a shit about makeup and research each latest (and scientifically invalid) makeup product.

Like most makeup products, this product manages to insult women’s intelligence.

Michelle the Nazi Mistress

My personal definition of a female bombshell doesn’t extend to the tattooed femme fatale/mistress (casual screw?) of Sandra Bullock’s husband. Affairs are terrible things in themselves, signifying betrayal, usually a sleigh of lies and there is no real justification if you have an agreement within a relationship.

So, it wasn’t difficult for me to add Michelle Bombshell to the ‘dirty’ category in my head, and I’m talking about dirty in the bad sense of the word. I mean, how else does one explain eager Nazi-themed shots? I mean, gee whiz, this is one time I don’t wish to be a celebrity. Sandra Bullock must be reeling. It’s terrible enough for the above monstrosity to be the accused mistress, but it’s even worse when they eagerly participate in Nazi themed shots and are alleged to be white supremacists.

A part of me thinks ‘Eek!’ but another part of me is unfazed by this development. I have friends who have been shocked by their spouse’s choices of paramour, after catching them in the act, after the act and so on. The chosen mistress is almost always the opposite of the spouse and in some cases doesn’t even reflect the values of the errant partner/spouse. But in this case, perhaps Sandra Bullock should reevaluate her husband’s character and move beyond the ‘rough and tough’ boy tatts as they can’t hide his alleged pussy act.

Having a bad week is a normal state of affairs for humans and animals alike. Annoying crap keeps us on our toes, but I don’t know how it is going to make the rest of my week better as I have to share a small office with another postgrad student whom I find annoying, arrogant and, frankly, a goddamn know it all. It’s the sort of week where I have moments feeling as though I hate everything. And I mean everything. The best way I can describe it is that it’s like experiencing bursts of existential crises.
I’m not one to discuss academic things during my lunch breaks. You can usually find me reading some slash horror novel or something completely unrelated to my research, but no, Mr Know-It, wants to discuss modern philosophers. In my darker mood, I entertain the idea of the male ego and how most modern philosopher’s are male because they have such an inflated view of their intellect. I mean, take a look at Peter Singer. So he wrote a book about the Animal Liberation. Has it really changed the fact that McDonald’s are profiting from Big Macs? No. If anything, it’s given a sector of no-lifers ammunition to harass meat eaters. I mean, don’t we get enough guilt from family, parents, lovers and religion? Why add an annoyingly arrogant male philosopher to that?

So when I voiced a similar view to Mr Know-It, he wiggled his bushy eyebrows in consternation. Oh lord, he thought. He had to share an office with me, squished up against the other wall with his new and shiny philosophy paperbacks, until they found a space for him.

But seriously, am I the only female who finds the majority of males in philosophy unnerving? If they’re not male, then they’re -there’s no other nicer way to say it – a little pervy and male, like Foucault. Where are the women in philosophy? I have to admit, I haven’t really investigated that aspect, but lately I’ve considered the reasons behind my lowered libido. A lot of academic males are a bit…well…unappealing to me. If they’re not arrogant to the gills, they’re annoying. If they’re not annoying, they’re like Mr Know-It.

I wonder if Mr Know-It knows how to find the G-Spot.

Just a Gigolo

I was watching a documentary about male gigolos and while it explored the world of male escorts, a refreshing change from the usual exploration of female sex workers a la Belle de Jour, I squirmed throughout the documentary. Many thoughts collided in my head. I wondered how on earth certain women paid for one ‘central’ if not disguised (by sunglasses) gigolo in the documentary, who resembled a textbook serial killer or pedophile (in the glasses).

While I realise that women pay for sex, I couldn’t understand how women would pay for the scary males in this documentary. One gigolo, claiming to be the highest paid in London, lacked any refinement and conversation skills and he needed major dental work! By the end of the documentary, this supposedly ‘highest paid’ gigolo wasn’t getting any work, blaming the credit crunch for his client’s lack of funds (sure, sure), and decided to try St Tropez! There was another, ‘caring’ gigolo, who refused to confirm whether he had sex with his (often elderly) clients, operated on a more professional level and had the vocabulary to converse, while spending his free time educating himself on wines – which comes in handy when you’re dining in posh restaurants with your client.

But then there was a comical Italian wannabe gigolo, who thought it was relatively easy to transform into a sophisticated gigolo. You can watch a sample of his style below:

This one had me squirming only because I’ve gone out with these sorts of men in the past. My friends and I would come across them during our holidays in Mediterranean hot spots: sleazy, money hungry and hypersexed (has nothing to do with quality though). These sorts of men view sex as a physical conquest and a sport.

In the documentary, the Italian’s search for work took him to a job interview for a web site that was to list male gigolos for affluent women. He was requested to take a photo of his erect cock for the interviewer (away from the interviewer) and an interesting thing occurred. He couldn’t get it up on demand, leaving the interviewer (a rather older snake oil merchant type) with one question: if he can’t get it up on demand, how would he get it up for the “lesser attractive clients”?

It’s a valid question. Anyway, the guy did eventually get it up at home, over some porno, but still, it makes you wonder about the website and the sexual approach taken by male (the older dude) flesh peddlers who think that women only want a porn star lookalike. I know many women who are professional, have little time for the dating game, who need escorts to accompany them to events. The thing is, these women also need males who are intellectually capable of stringing a few sentences together, so as not to look like complete tossers during functions, dinners, and the like.

But the thing that had me reeling, and I’m thinking (correct me) that this is common for those who are sex workers, is the notion of sex workers thinking they are something “exceptional”. The shlock TV show about Belle de Jour tends to be arrogant, its narrator coming across as that. I have to admit, when Belle De Jour was ‘unmasked’, I felt a little schadenfreude, and really questioned the TV representation. A few of my friends laughed about it as well. Sure, I’m aware of sex workers being the same as your next door neighbour, of them not resembling a model/goddess, but Belle had to be simply off her head to represent herself as this uber goddess, when really, she resembles a standard, if not drab, academic type and no men or clients have come forth to refute her claims. A part of me still thinks there aren’t any, who’ll admit to paying astronomical prices to bed her. I’m just saying what many have been thinking or have been afraid to say.

Coming away from this documentary about male gigolos, I wondered if some men would ever get it right. Incidentally, the Italian wannabe gigolo was out of work for three months, and during the documentary, still unemployed and heavily in debt. I think the Belle De Jour hoopla misrepresents much sex work -as a regular and ‘high’ income.

Think about it: If these gigolos were making soooooooo much money, why would they then need television exposure?

The sexual thought for today came to me, not like some psychic flash, but as a recent shopping expedition with a friend of mine. She was eyeing a few things she should not have been eyeing, and I shouldn’t use the word should because it’s nonsensical. We use the word should out of a sense of habit more than anything else. Anyway, we were shopping, came across a few exclusive labels, as you do in the finer or more ‘exclusive’ department stores, and it got me thinking.

Sex is viewed in different ways. Everyone has their own interpretation or definition of what it is or what it is about, but what about personal mottos. Can certain popular mottos be consistently applied to sex?

For myself, I believe and (try to) follow the idea/motto of sex being similar to luxury. Luxury – like the type that manifest in some of the products my friend eyed in the department store – is about quality, not quantity. You pay less for a polyester blend sweater and (so much) more for a cashmere version. Thus sex – for me at least -is about quality than quantity. I only say that because I had a short relationship with a sexual klutz for the first five or eight months of my adult sexual life.

Of course, the only other oddity that I need to resolve is the fact that sex is easier to obtain (for 90% of the female population) than a Birkin.
