Sure, the werewolves in Twilight are young…they’re so young that they can make a grown woman feel like a pedophile. How old was Taylor Lautner? Under the age of 18. What the? I think, as a grown woman, I need a grown up werewolf. What is wrong with that?
When I went to see Sherlock Holmes recently, I saw the cosmos’s answer to an adult werewolf: Benicio Monserrate Rafael del Toro Sánchez. Commonly known as Benicio Del Toro. I can’t wait to see him playing the role of author Bret Easton Ellis in Lunar Park and I’m still waiting to see him as Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara in Che, but during the lead up to Sherlock, I saw the trailer that makes Taylor Lautner look like a squealing little baby and I thought, finally a really beastly werewolf! Benicio Del Toro stars in a remake of the 1941 classic, The Wolf Man.
I love scary werewolves. Remember the film An American Werewolf in London? So far, that’s the best contemporary werewolf film. Everything else is blah -with the exception of the original Howling, which marked my first forbidden film as a teenager. Lycanthropy is a popular theme in horror. One of the first literary/historical references to shape shifting/transformation was made by classical historian Herodotus, who wrote about wolf worship and how the Scythians turned into wolves every few years. When Christianity embraced Europe, everything that was outside the fold was deemed satanic: wolf worship included. So wolf worship -along with the average domestic cat – became satanic. According to St Augustine: “that the Devil creates no new nature, but that he is able to make something appear to be which in reality is not.”
The Wolf Man will feature Del Toro as the Wolf Man but the Gene Simmons will contribute the voice of the Wolf Man. The story centers on Del Toro’s character reuniting with his father, played by Sir Anthony Hopkins, following the disappearance of his brother.

I don’t mind remakes if they have better special effects that relate to physical transformations, but Avatar is slightly overrated and I agree. The script isn’t anything different and if you ask me, the plot reminded me of the story of Pocahontas. It’s just a futuristic version of Pocahontas. The only saving grace are the visual effects. I’m waiting to see Sir Anthony Hopkins in another role. It has been a while between roles.
